We are happy to launch the 4th Edition of “Principles of Evolution Course: biology through time & organizational levels” (POE), on behalf of the Spanish Society for Evolutionary Biology (SESBE), and Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC).

The course will take place at Reserva Biológica de Doñana, within the National Park (Huelva, Spain) 11-22 January 2027.

This intensive course will cover broad aspects of the evolutionary process, across multiple timescales, organizational levels, and phylogenetic breadth. It will balance teaching of essential concepts with in-depth discussions of the forefront topics in each of the subdisciplines. It will combine theoretical and hands-on sessions, with ample opportunity for discussion, in an exceptional natural environment. The course will address multiple central topics in evolutionary biology:

Origin of life and eukaryogenesis – Evolution of multicellularity – Paleobiology and paleoanthropology – Phylogenomics and macroevolution – Population genetics – Phylogeography, landscape genetics and speciation – Epigenetics – Sexual selection – Evolutionary developmental biology – Evolutionary ecology

The course is aimed at 15 early career researchers (PhD students and early postdoctoral fellows) with a strong focus in evolutionary biology in their projects.

Patricia Álvarez – Marta Barluenga – Ozren Bogdanovic – David Buckley – Pau Carazo – Elena Casacuberta – Fernando Casares – Santiago Elena – Borja Figueirido – Francisco García-Gonzalez – José A.
